CHRIST (Deemed to be University), founded in 1969 as Christ College, is rooted in the educational vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a 19th-century social reformer. Managed by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the university has been a leader in Indian higher education, introducing innovative curricula, emphasizing academic discipline, and promoting holistic education.

In 2004, the University Grants Commission (UGC) granted autonomy to Christ College, recognizing it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. It was designated a Deemed to be University in 2008, receiving an ‘A+’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and ranking 67th in the NIRF India Ranking 2023.

Offering a multidisciplinary approach, the university provides undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs across humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management, engineering, architecture, education and law, serving around 30,000 students. Its campuses in Bangalore, Lavasa (Pune) and Ghaziabad (Delhi NCR) reflect a commitment to multiculturalism, with students from all Indian states and approximately 60 countries.

CHRIST University publishes six peer-reviewed research journals and over 300 books in Kannada and English. It actively promotes sports, music, and literary activities, creating a vibrant environment that nurtures creative excellence and holistic development in its students.
